What is a Business Development & Strategy Lead at Sentient Collective?

Sentient Collective is searching for an English/Japanese bilingual Business Development & Strategy Lead to work closely with our clients to explore new ways of creating value, as well as drive business development to cultivate new and long term business relationships.

Business development and strategy is a core component to doing so, and in your role at Sentient Collective you will contribute to several parts of this process including business development, client relationship building, brand building, innovation strategy, and business design. You will make the biggest impact by developing, managing and executing business development strategies both for Sentient Collective and our clients that capitalizes on the range of product opportunities in the market. 

Once here you will

  • Drive development of new business opportunities. 

  • Create and lead new collaborations with our client partners on a long-term basis. 

  • Support the development of portfolio strategy, including but not exclusive to network building, client engagement strategy, portfolio message, and offer development. 

  • Work with our team to solve problems across a wide range of industries in new and existing markets.

  • Support project work throughout the year by interfacing directly with clients in both a liaison capacity as well as an active project member capacity to insure the delivery of all business design elements of project content development.

About you

Communication: Strong Japanese (native) and English verbal and written skills are a highly valued. You can clearly and effectively communicate your intent in both Japanese and English. At times you may be required to brainstorm and strategize with teams in English and then debrief and unpack insights and findings with clients in Japanese. 

Experience: 3-5 years experience in driving business design and development in a creative consultancy. Experience in collaborating with multiple internal and external organizations.

Collaboration: You are inspired by and thrive working in a team based environment. We require team members to be flexible and open minded, and positivity and constructive criticism are valued over the immediate application of constraints.

Multicultural mindset: You can work flexibly with a multicultural team, and are able to help bridge the gaps between Japanese and other mindsets.

Ability to thrive in ambiguity: The road is not always clear, and you are able to adapt as the project evolves. You learn from failure and and embrace design tools such as sacrificial concepts and quick prototyping. You understand that design is a learning process and innovation happens when you fail early and fail well.

Overview: You are able to look at problems not just from a business point of view, but from a holistic perspective of experience creation, and are able to simplify and streamline that complexity through your craft.
